SIOUX FALLS, South Dakota (AP) - TransCanada Corp. says it will
nearly double the capacity of a pipeline it is building to transport
Canadian crude to Gulf Coast refineries.
The $7 billion expansion will add an additional capacity of 500,000
barrels a day to the Keystone Pipeline, a partnership between
Alberta, Canada-based TransCanada and Houston-based ConocoPhillips.
When completed, the $12.2 billion project will transport 1.1 million
barrels of oil per day.
The 36-inch (91-centimeter) pipeline will bring tar sands oil from
Hardisty, Alberta down a 1,980-mile (3,186-kilometer) route to a
delivery point near existing terminals in Port Arthur, Texas. Plans
also call for an additional 50-mile (80-kilometer) pipeline lateral
to the Houston area.
